Chamber of Cupid and Psyche

The "Cupid and Psyche" at Villa Carlotta is a very fine replica of the original by Antonio Canova from 1796, now in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, sculpted a few years after the first version now in the Louvre, Paris.

In the same hall the visitor will also find the bas-relief cycle depicts episodes of The Aeneid, created in the latter decades of the eighteenth century by Giuseppe Franchi (Carrara 1731 – Milan 1806), a leading figure of Italian Neoclassicism.
